Pastor's Notes
You are blessed!
Proverbs 10:22
22 The blessing of the LORD makes one rich,
And He adds no sorrow with it.
Why does it seem like I am living a curse? Answer: Because we have not pursued the blessings.
Galatians 3:13
13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree” [ h ] ), 14 that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
We are gonna have to be faithful again…We have been talking about this for weeks. In order for you to receive anything from God, it will require you to walk in faith.
Matthew 5:2
2 Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying:
3 “ Blessed are the poor in spirit,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
For they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek,
For they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
For they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful,
For they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
For they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
For they shall be called sons of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11 “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Poor in Spirit:
Poor in Spirit means acknowledging God's ownership of everything and that we are responsible to be good stewards of those things with which we have be blessed. Our attitude should be one of faithful servants and not one of pride, envy, lust, and gluttony. We are called to use what we have and are given to provide for ourselves and serve God's people.
All of these are attitudes. Attitude is a state of mind or a feeling; disposition.
Remember when your Mom said, “you better change that attitude or I'm gonna spank you?”
Attitude is a frame of mind that you are in when you are dealing with people. The attitudes that God is wanting us to have is so we can receive our blessing.
When your attitude changes, your circumstances change.
Blessed are you when your people revile you? Persecute you? And speak evil of you? What kind of crazy talk is this? Jesus must have a screw loose, this does not seem possible. It seems completely opposite of what we should do. RETALIATE!!
No. He says to Rejoice! And be glad! We are building up rewards in heaven but it will affect what happens on earth. Some of the most hateful and mean people I have encountered the last few years have been Christians who have persecuted me. But, because I have decided to not retaliate and instead ignore them and rejoice…God chose to bless us!
Genesis 12:1
1 Now the LORD had said to Abram:
“Get out of your country,
From your family
And from your father's house,
To a land that I will show you.
2 I will make you a great nation;
I will bless you
And make your name great;
And you shall be a blessing.
When you want to feel bad and think you're under a curse, God says get out of the country of curses and enter into the nation of blessings!
